The successful candidate will work as a member of an established and highly skilled technical team. Assignments involve detailed steam path design and analysis activities, and developing advanced concepts to improve the output and performance of the installed turbine fleet.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The successful candidate will work with an established, highly skilled technical team dedicated to both analyzing both the performance of existing steam turbines and developing advanced aftermarket products to improve their efficiency and performance. The position will include a period of intensive internal training and represents a unique opportunity to combine an interest in thermodynamic and aerodynamic design methodologies with applied turbine experience. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Assignments with the Thermo-Aero/Application Design group completing detailed steam path design and analysis activities, and developing advanced concepts to improve the output and performance of the installed turbine fleet. This work will involve participation on both pre-order (sales and applications) and post-order (engineering and manufacturing) design activities.
- Assist with the diagnosis and post failure analysis of turbine performance and operational problems including performance testing and monitoring per the ASME PTC6 Code.
- The work will require excellent analytical and technical skills and will involve the extensive use of both Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and proprietary internal thermodynamic analysis software.
- Complete technical studies involving the analysis of identified performance problems or to investigate potential benefits and cost effective application of performance enhancing features.
- Provide thermo-aero technical support for the Engineering Design and Development group in completing both detailed analysis of turbine steam path components and power uprate projects.
- Support cross-functional activities of TurboCare and affiliated Siemens operations in the development and application of advanced technologies through the relevant Research and Development activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS or advanced degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics software and analysis tools.
- An interest in the operation, installation, and design of large rotating equipment
- Steam and/or gas turbine mechanical design experience
- Experience with turbine performance testing
- Computer programming skills
