The MHI MW251 type gas turbine is a single-shaft, axial-flow heavy industrial unit, with cold end power drive, in the 45-55 MW class.  The machine is available for 50 Hz and 60 Hz operation.

Designed around 1970 in collaboration with FIAT Avio and Westinghouse Electrics, the MW251 has evolved into the B8 present configuration based on operating experience and new technologies introduction.
