The primary purpose of this position is to set up and operate individually and/or simultaneously horizontal and vertical single head and multiple-head electrical discharge machines to perform machining of solid nozzle blocks, various blades, rings, and vane segments.  This TurboCare position also includes refurbishing and manufacturing new graphite electrodes for vane segment machining.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform necessary operations as directed in information packet or on blueprint.
  • Access computer and/or setup information books as required and move work pieces, jigs, and fixtures to work area.
  • Setup and operate simultaneously one or more single or multi head electrical discharge machines and work pieces, install tooling and fixtures, set indexing and make all machine tool, power and control settings.
  • Machine various blades, airfoils in nozzle blocks, rings, and vane segments following established procedures and according to specifications and check with the appropriate measuring and gauging equipment.
  • Operate Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).  Maintain CMM certification.
  • Maintain coolant at proper level, empty, clean, and fill system as specified.  Pump coolant to and from settling tanks and change filters as required.
  • Clean sludge and sediment from work piece; grind or file as required and move work piece and material within work area and/or staging area as required.  Maintain shop order information.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school education or its equivalent.  Must also obtain and maintain CMM certification to check vane segments.
JOB PREREQUISITES:
  • Successfully complete Blueprint Reading training course.
  • Successfully complete area specific Math.
  • Successfully complete Measuring Instruments training course.
  • Successfully complete the Industrial Reading Test with a score of 70% or better.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make machine control program edits/adjustments.
  • Must be knowledgeable in area specific machine controls.
